Ahhh The Amateur Nationals.. The premier show of shows that every amateur looks forward to. Fierce competition, making new friends and laying down a few hundred laps. This year this event was under new leadership and despite the heat, we all had to get accustom to the “new program”.

It was indeed a long way to travel from Pennsylvania, but the experience was well worth it. I simply rode two classes on my 85cc machine, the modified and the DTX class.

The first day was so hot weather wise and I was headed to the short track, I am not a big fan of this short track, in fact I have never really liked it. From practice on we struggled with gearing and I was getting frustrated. The heat race I still struggled and our gears were way off, however I did get off the line ok, but missed the direct transfers in both classes only to lay down more laps through semis. The DTX I had a good start and took the win to enter the main, the Mod class, took a different turn all together.. I jumped the line, then restarted on the back row and well, you know how that goes.. I missed the transfer. The DTX main I started on the back row and made a lot of moves towards the front and finished a well 7th place. I had made the most of what I could do.

The second day the TT should show more promise, as I am more of a TT rider over the short track. The track itself is pretty much the same condition every year and I like it. The mod class, had a great start took the lead early and took the win and direct transfer. The DTX , had another great start and another win and transfer. I was pumped and ready for the mains.. I picked outside position and away I went, great starts in both DTX and Mod classes, The DTX had some major crashes and a restart.. I spun the tire out , but held on to finish 3rd. The Mod class.. Another good start, but the some other bikes pulled away from me, so I finished 4th. A good day.

The next day the heat index was so Hot, we didn’t really leave the hotel because it was awful.. AC is what we needed and a pool… So I did both and waited for more racing. Thursday, it was back to the half mile.. UGH!

I had ok starts in both heats, the DTX I finished 4th and headed to the semi, the Mod class I took the win and was happy. The semi I had a decent start to finish 2nd and get a ticket to the show. The main DTX I started from 2nd row, had a good start, kids were falling around me, I checked up a little with 2 laps to go and held on to finish 4th. The Mod class was crazy, everyone looking for the win Got pinched off into the turns but held on, was passed on the inside and tried to make up ground, then someone crashed right into my line and I had no where to go but through him, bike went up in the air and I followed.. I got the wind knocked out of me.. But finished 8th.

Friday would bring half mile again Both classes I did well in the heats for the easy way to the mains.. No semis I placed 3rd in DTX heat and 2nd in Mod heat. The mains, DTX second row start finished 6th and Mod, also finished 6th.

Overall: DTX 3rd and Modified 10th

Last weekend we went to Timonium .. A little track that we all like. They run a winter series indoors but it’s summer so we were outside. I rode the 7-11 85cc class. The first round of practice the track was perfect, by the second round.. Some holes appeared.. You really couldn’t miss them. The heat race, front row start, battled a bit to land in 5th and did the same in the main event.

Thank you to all my sponsors. Also Have to add, that my Mom and Dad have been so supportive of my racing, in fact, my Mom videotaped me at the Amateur Nationals, or so we thought.. When we watched the half mile race, we wondered why she was cheering for someone else. She taped the wrong rider, I was out front and she was watching someone with similar leathers and yelling at them to pass the rider, little did she know… I already did!!

This past weekend I raced at seaford and hairington Delaware. The first night the track was wet and slimy on the outside and dry and dusty on the inside. In practice my brother broke the bone between his thumb and wrist and it was the worst digger my dad has ever seen him have but, he got back on his bike and finished 2nd in his heat. For the rest of the night I rode carefully on account of what my brother did and ended up 4th in my heat in the open b class with my 250 but, then it rained out. Then the next day I raced at hairington Delaware. In my first heat I got the holeshot and ran away for a win. Then in the other heat I got another good start but had to battle to stay in 2nd. Then came the finals. In the first final I got the holeshot and just played it careful for the win. Then in the other class again I got a great start but had to battle to hold the third postion. this weekend I'm taking a brake but, until next time don't look back just go forward. Kyle McGrane # 99
This past weekend I raced at Hairington, De. I raced three classes. In my first heat the 100 youth i got the holeshot and won. Then was the 250 sprotsman. I got another good start and won. Finally was the Open B I got a bad start from the outside spot and ended up 3rd which put me on the back row. Then came final time. In the first final I got another great start and ran away for a win. Then was the next final. I had a scary first coner but still went on to win. Then it was the last final. We had three restarts in the race and all of them I got great starts. After the last start I held them of for a win. I can't wait until next weekend were I will be racing at the same place for a double header. Until next time don't look back and just go forward. Kyle McGrane # 99
This past weekend I raced at Canton, Ohio double header. The first day in practice the track was to deep to handle. Then came the 80 heat. I got a great start and ran away for the win. Then was the 100 heat. I got another good start but was no match for the 150's, I got 3rd.Then came final time. First was the 80 final. I got an okay start and was in fourth going down the backstrach. With 3 laps to go I made move into 1st to take home a win. Then was the 100 final. I got a great start but was still know match for the 150's and I got another 3rd.
Then came the second day. The promoter took about 6 inches of pegravel off which made the track a whole lot better. In the 80 heat race I got a maverlous start and ended up wininng. Then it was the 100 heat. I got an okay start and was battling to hold first and it stuck. Then came the 80 final. They soaked the track right before we went out which made it harder to race. I ended up getting the holeshot, But with three laps to go I dropped back into 2nd. On the last lap I went to make my move but I hit a huge water spot, got sideways, and almost hit a lap rider. But by the time I got back into a gear to take back off 3rd had already got by. So I ended up 3rd. Then came the 100 final. I got the holeshot again and was battling with second for the win. I ended up holding him off for the win. I would like to thank Scotty Brown and his crew from bikedays.com for another fine memorial day weekend. Let the good times roll on. Kyle McGrane # 99

May 22, 2011.. Race Report

In the past two weekends I've raced twice. The first race was at Englishtown New Jersey which was a supermoto race. At the beginning of the race day the track was sobbing wet but it got better as the day went on. My first heat was the air cooled class. I got a good start but 2nd was on my tail but I ended up holding him off. Then came the premier mini class. I got a good start but was no match for the other bikes, I ended up 5th. Then was the novice heat I got a good start and ended up finishing 5th.Then came the finals. In the air cooled class I got a great start and ran away for the win. Then in the premier mini class i got another bad start and finished 5th. Finally it was the novice final. I got a good start from the second row and stayed in a consistant spot to finish 4th on my 250 cc bike.
Then the second race was Gratz which is in PA. The track got worse as the day went on beacuse it dried out on the bottom. In my heat I got a great start was in the lead but I went into the 3rd corner to hot and went high. Then came final time. I ended up getting a bad start and was in third half a straightaway behind 2nd, but with two laps to go I made my move and past 2nd. So I ended up with a good race day.I can't wait till next week when I race Caton, Ohio double header. Have A Happy memorial day! Just let the good times roll. Kyle McGrane # 99
This past weekend I raced at a local hometown track the piston poppers. The track was good up until final time, but first the heats. In the first heat I got a great start and ran away for a win. The other I had to fight my way into second. Then came the finals. The first final was the 150 class. I got another gteart start and ran away for a 3 bike length win over second. Then came the 85 class. I got a great start and had the lead until I got into two tank slappers on laps 3 and 4. So I ended up 2nd place. For now keep the wheels on the grond. Kyle McGrane # 99
This past weekend I race at lampeter in PA which is one of my home town tracks. The track was bad in practice because it didn't have enough water on it, but it got better as the day went on. In my first heat race I got a great start and was in the lead untill the yellow flag came out and I went in to hot and a kid got past me on the inside. So I ended up 2nd which was a good starting potion. Next came the final. I ended up starting in the same place that I started in the heat. I got another great start, went in the first turn and let the other guys go high and I sneeked under. The top three guy were running right togther. I was putting up a good fight with the leader but just could get around him so I ended up 2nd.I can't wait for next weekend were I will be racing at trailways and the piston poppers two home town tracks. Until next time keep the wheels on the ground. Kyle McGrane # 99
This past weekend I raced at Englishtown,New Jersey supermoto where I collected my three overall first place placks from 2010 season. Then the ESMRA 2011 season got started. I ended up pulling off some good finishes too with my kxl125 and kx85 in three classes. First off I rode my 250 in practice but I wasn't that fast on it. So on my kxl125 I ended up winning on it in the air cooled mini class out of 8 riders. Then in the premier mini class on my kx85 I ended up finishing 4th out of 6 riders. The last class of the day which was the novice I ended up finishing 3rd on my 85 which was good enough for me.Next week I'm hoping it doesn't rain so I can race at Lampeter and in Delaware which are both flattracks. Till next time keep the wheels on the ground.

Daytona explosion…

We got all excited about heading to Daytona this year.  I think everyone from the northeast  counted down the days as our winter was harsh and we were looking for some sunshine and HOT racing.  This would mark my last year in this class so I wanted to come out on top of the series.

We have five full days of racing, I guess the promoters really wanted us to get all the experience in now as an amateur so we can explode into the professional ranks.  It was tough and I was tired, but the weather was great.

We landed in Savannah , which was a new track for me and I really didn’t have enough practice on it to figure it out.  I was dealt with a few bad starts and ended the day with a 4th in both the DTX and Mod classes.  It was better than I thought, but was ready for the rest of the week.

Day two, my track Daytona ST  I couldn’t be happier.  Once you ride a track every year and know where the groove and the fast line, you are in and that is what had happened for me.. Lots of experience and I knew right from the start I was dialed in.  In both classes I had great starts and won both heats.  Front row starts in the main landed two wins, I was super excited.

Day three off to Volusia half mile. We had been here for  years and the track seems to get more harsh year after year, I believe they run cars on them when Bike Week is not happening so that may have something to do with it.  I must say I wasn’t thrilled after going out for practice, it was harsh to say the least, but everyone had the same track and we had to do it for points in the series. Trying to stay out of danger, I rode smart and safe finishing with two 4ths in both classes, not really what I was shooting for but mentally I was nervous and many kids fell hard and I didn’t want that to happen to me… Day four back to Volusia, this time a short track, the surface was better but not great, it got more tacky towards the finals which was ok by me.  In the modified class I had a great start was running 2nd and then it grooved up and I couldn’t pass so I stayed in second.  The DTX class worked out almost in the same way, but finished 1st.. WOO HOO!!

Day five and last day of racing in Florida for the year it was off to Ocala TT.  I like TT racing I ran great and finished well in both classes, however I missed my mark overall in the modified class by 5 points.. Landing with a 3rd and in the DTX class lost by 2points overall ending with 2nd.

We have a full schedule of flat track and supermotard, look for more updates soon!!
